Sheriff’s office warn text messages deceiveds become more complex

Grand Junction, there. (KJCT) – When you receive an urgent message, you are likely to respond quickly. It is what makes text messages so widespread and dangerous.

According to the Sheriff’s office in Mesa County, fraud has become very complex. They host a series of fraud prevention classes to inform and protect the community.

“Investigators have a lot of training and a lot of experience. There are a lot of technologies that follow the pursuit and detection of these scams, but nothing beats the prevention. Said Sergeant Ross Young, with the MCSO property crime unit.

The sheriff’s office says they see scams of text messages in the form of false taxes, packages and fraudsters posing as financial institutions. A scam, in particular, concerning the residents of Mesa County is a text that presents as a tax agency in Denver, asking for payment for an unpaid tax.

“If you have any questions or something suspicious, call the bank immediately. The tax operators in the state of Colorado are funded by the state, so you can call the transport department to check this double, ”he said.

I came to E-470 and Express For comments, they said they are aware of these fraudulent text messages and encourage anyone who receives to delete the message immediately, avoid clicking on any links and not responding.

Another important piece, never hesitate to call the law, sergeant Young added. “Rather, we would call ourselves then and there is nothing but to be something and not call us at all.”

The sheriff’s office will continue to host free community fraud in the last Thursday of each month. The next class will be on March 27 at 9 in the morning and will continue until December. More details can be found Here.
