An elderly woman “died of fear” after a burglary at her home that the police did not investigate, says her son.

Elsie Price, 93 years old, stole the bank card and documents during the theft at her house in Nottingham, in June 2024. Then she died on July 7, 2024.

Her son, Lande Price, 70 years old, who lived with her mother, says she was rapidly damaged in the days after burglary.

He contacted her bank that confirmed that thousands of pounds were stolen from the Elsie account.

Elsie was fine health before the incident and recovered from a broken hip.

Land said: “She was frightened by death, she died of fear. Every day I say “the police returned?”

“I could see that she was playing in her mind, she really upset her. But I never heard a word.

– I went to her bedside table when she died. They never returned to her, they just left it. They had no intention to ever return to her.

“I’m disgusted, I’m really. Probably I should have been calling the police, but you think they start their questions.

“If they only returned and made sure my mother would say they would be with their eyes on the spot, they sent a car to patrol up and down here, that would have done it for her.

– It was shameful. My mother was 93 years old and it was very good for health until this happened.

“It was much better than any 93-year-old you met until all this happened.”

Târce said that the police had not been able to investigate, despite the bank statements and CCTV from where Elsie’s money was withdrawn.

An internal review found that the family did not receive the expected standard of service from Nottinghamshire, and the force asked for excuses.

The force said that an officer examined the case, but no statement was taken. Terrence then informed the police about the death of his mother on July 18.

This followed an official complaint from him and the force accepted that the service provided was “poor and unacceptable”.

Tande added: “I didn’t expect to drop quickly. My mother was a wonderful woman and was highly respected by Rise Park.

“I feel so left by the police. Have no compassion notes or nothing. Is shameful.

A nottinghamire police spokesman said: “First of all, we are sorry to hear about the death of Elsie Price. An incident was reported in June 2024 and a crime was registered.

“Following an internal review, I found that the service level was not at the standard we were waiting for and asked for the family.

“The investigation officer received the learning around to manage his investigations in a timely manner and to talk to their supervisor if the assistance is needed and that the cases are quickly progressed.

“We would like to apologize to the family and offer sincere condolences.”
