The member of the CC Library Advisory Council speaks of the process of reviewing the proposed policies

Corpus Christi, Texas – the member of the Board of Directors of the Corpus Christi Library, Dora Wilburn, speaks after a member of the community met with the manager of Peter Zanoni. This meeting that took place earlier this week among the participants in the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Zanoni and Avid Library, Shawn Flanagan, included discussions about the revisions proposed to the development policy of the Public Library Corpus Christi.

“This is wrong. What happens is wrong and this is, “Wilburn told the news reporter Alexis Scott, while reading a message sent by Zanoni to the mayor and members of the Municipal Council.

The message writes:

Mayor and council,

Yesterday, I met with Shawn Flanagan to discuss the revisions proposed in the development policy of the collection of the public library recommended by most of the members of the Library Council.

Mr. Flanagan proposed the following changes to politics:

-Plating existing and new books containing sexually explicit materials from the minor section to the Library Section.

-increasing a library card system that allows parents to restrict their child to check the material in the library section.

I will examine the reviews proposed by Mr. Flanagan with the president of the Library Advisory Council, Craig Pat, Thursday.

In general, I am supported by Mr. Flanagan’s changes. He and I agreed that we must complete the parameters of the “sexual explicit material”, because its interpretation is subjective. An agreed standard of what is considered “sexually explicitly” must still be completed.

I will give the Municipal Council an update and next steps following my meeting on Thursday with Mrs. Craig.

There is a meeting of the Library Advisory Council on Tuesday, March 4, where it is expected that the development policy of the library collection will be discussed and potentially approved.

Peter Zanoni, Corpus Christi City Manager

Wilburn believes that the proposed revisions made by Flanagan should have been presented to the entire council, rather than just Zanoni. This process, she added, shows the power a member of the community can have when connected to a city leader.

She told Scott that the director of the city library does not know that any sessions related to the reviews of library policy. Wilburn wants the library staff to be included.

“When I read it, I thought of myself:” Well, first of all, why meet this type? “And then this man, all the work I did to deal with this council and can simply go to take a meeting with him. Should meet each body. Send an E -mail to counselors and see if they want to come or anything else, Wilburn said. “Even though I am busy, I would have stopped my life, because the books are so important and I respect the staff, to go.”

Flanagan sends this message to the community members, following his conversation with Zanoni:

Dear everyone, after our February 18th meeting, which was dedicated to exit porn from the children’s sections in the library, I asked for your prayers for a meeting that I had with the manager of our city, Peter Zanoni, Monday. Our prayers were heard and Mr. Zanoni agreed to implement all our requested changes !!!

Praise the Lord! However, we are not yet free at home. We need your prayers for a 10:30 on Thursday between Pat Craig, Melinda Dessantos-Both, members of the Library Board and the city library director and the city staff to make policy changes to implement the agreed changes-

  1. Sexual explicit books in the sections of the minor library.
  2. Keeping it outside these sections.
  3. Allowing parents The ability to choose if their children’s library books allow them to access adult sections.

If Thursday’s meeting is successful, then these changes can be ratified at the Board of Directors meeting on March 4.

Please pray and I will keep you updated with the result of the Thursday meeting. We are waiting to see the result to decide which direction to take our planned protest on March 4.

For any interest, we meet at CDF HQ at 16:00 on Thursday to discuss the following moves on this issue,

God bless all, Shawn

However, we came to Zanoni and Flanagan, none answered. The city of Corpus Christi issued a statement from Kris 6 News questions about how the reviews are made.

The members of the community are welcome to provide policy suggestions within the public comment section of the Library Advisory Council meetings. In addition, public comments can be made at the meetings of the Municipal Council.

While community members can meet individually with any member of the city staff, a meeting involving the entire consultative council of the library would require a quorum to continue.

The chairman of the Board of Directors of the Library communicates with the city staff at least once a month to examine the articles in the agenda.

The city of Corpus Christi

Wilburn said that no matter what is discussed with the city leaders, the option is still more.

“They don’t think about anyone by control,” Wilburn said. “They want to control what you check or where it is.”

The next meeting of the Board of Directors of the Library is on Tuesday, March 4.
