Cordova woman arrested for trying to sell the baby in Arkansas

Fayetteville, ARK. A 20-year-old mother from Cordova, Alabama, was accused of giving up a minor for adoption, a Class C crime, in Washington County, Arkansas. Authorities claim that the child, born in November 2024, was sold for clothes and cash.

The authorities in Washington County were warned earlier this month by a family member who reported that the mother, identified as Amber Booth, traveled to Arkansas and sold the child. According to the arrest report, when trying to recover the child, a woman from Elkins, Arkansas, refused to return the child, claiming that Booth signed documents that grant their custody. A deputy said the documents are insufficient for legal custody, which caused the state authorities to intervene.

It seems that Booth told investigators that the woman had to take care of the child for only a few weeks. The arrest report also indicates that Booth informed a deputy that money was offered, but “did not take it”. However, Booth told another deputy that he “received several off-Marca clothing and $ 50 in the child.”

Booth was booked in the detention center in Washington County on February 24, with bonds set at $ 5,000. The child stays with the family in Arkansas, while Booth’s relatives have filed for guardianship. An emergency hearing is scheduled for March 5, and Booth is about to appear in court on March 19th.

This is a developing story.
