Professor Chief Councilor Muhammad Yunus said yesterday that the documentation of all the atrocities committed during the regime eliminated, Sheic Hasina, is necessary to ensure justice.

“It requires adequate documentation of all the atrocities committed against the people of this country. Without this documentation, it will be difficult to discover the truth and ensure the justice,” said the chief counselor.

He made these observations when Gwyn Lewis, the United Nations Resident coordinator in Bangladesh, and Huma Khan, the main human rights counselor at the UN Resident Coordinator’s office, called him to the Jamuna state -of -the -art.

Gwyn Lewis said the UN is ready to provide technical assistance and help people in Bangladesh strengthen their ability for this effort.

“This is part of the process of healing and establishing the truth,” Lewis said.

The chief counselor thanked the UN for his report to ascertain the facts on human rights and abuses related to July-August 2024 protests in Bangladesh.

“We are very happy to see the UN report. It came in time. It wasn’t an easy task,” he said.

The resident coordinator informed the chief counselor that the High Commissioner of the United Nations Human Rights Volker Türk will inform the Member States about the results of the report on March 5 within the 55 -A Subs of the Council for Human Rights.

She expressed her hope that the future Visit of the UN Secretary General, António Getterres, in Bangladesh, will bring the rohingya crisis on the global agenda, against the background of declining aid.

“We are very concerned about the financial situation,” she said, adding that $ 15 million a month is needed just to ensure food for Rohingya refugees.

The UN Secretary General, Geterres, is scheduled to visit Bangladesh on March 13-16.
