Given the future of gender equity to Title IX Week

Given the future of gender equity to Title IX Week

Sivagami Lakshmanan ’26

When I think of my decision to join the work group in Title IX, I think of my professional journey in a deeply rooted industry in Patriarchate. In my previous workplace, I was a witness for the first time as the environment prevented individuals from bringing their whole thing to work. This has not only stifled personal growth, but also prevented the collective potential of teams. As one of the youngest, but the longest members of my team, I woke up in a position where my colleagues and even managers went to me for guidance in creating a more inclusive atmosphere. These experiences have lit a passion in me to actively favor environments in which everyone feels safe, appreciated and empowered to offer them all the best.

I brought this unit with me to Yale. I wanted to contribute to doing som – and yale as a whole – a place where everyone feels comfortable and has a feeling of belonging. The joining of the Commission in Title IX offered me the opportunity to transform this vision into action. The work I did, such as initiatives such as “Stall Street Journals”, has contributed to the conversations around Title IX and its importance in creating a safer and more inclusive environment.

One of the most impactful moments for me in Title IX the week of awareness was the involvement with “Voices”, a SOM tradition in which people share personal stories and experiences related to the problems in Title IX. Hearing these stories he resonated deeply with me and strengthened my commitment to this work. It reminded me of the importance of amplifying various perspectives and making sure everyone feels heard and supported.

Title IX the week of awareness of SOM exemplifies how Yale prioritizes education and dialogue on critical issues, such as gender -based discrimination. By expanding information efforts and involving more people in these conversations, we work collectively for a safer and more fair society. Together, we build a community that not only meets, but exceeds expectations for inclusion and respect – one in which everyone can prosper without fear or barriers.
