Belagavi: The police have come to the conclusion that a gang based in Rajasthan was behind the burglary of the SBI ATM at Sambra, 16 km away from the city, which took place last Tuesday. Burglars robbed 75,600 RS by cutting the ATM chest with a gas cutter. Earlier, they sprayed the CCTV camera there with black ink. This is the same Modus operandi followed by the gang based in Rajasthan. This tape was observed again in Karnataka after a year. Police Commissioner of Belagavi, Iada Martin Marbaniang, formed three teams to investigate the case in Karnataka and Maharashtra.
According to police, about 7 to 8 bands operate in Karnataka, Maharashtra and Telangana. Most accusations are from Mewad from Rajasthan. In Mewad, there are shops for ATM residues. The accused, trained in those ATM residue stores, know how to break the ATMs easily.
“They choose the calendar from 1 to 3 in the morning. They need almost 7-8 minutes to break an ATM. They have no confusion. They come only, turn the CCTV camera and apply a black color on it. They enter, cut the ATM with a gas cut and make their money.
According to the bear, the same tape broke 10 ATMs in Maharashtra only in February – including two in Telagana and two in Karnataka, including Belagavi. On March 1, he broke an ATM at the Anekal Taluk chains in the Bengaluru Urban District. Last year, the gang broke the ATMs at Yamakanmandi in Hukkeri Taluk and Ankali in Chikkodi Taluk in Belagavi district with the same Modus Operandi.
The SBI ATMs targeted
In most cases, the gang targeted the ATMs of the State Bank of India (SBI), the largest bank in the public sector, instead of private ATMs, due to the smallest security measures. Most of the ATMs aimed at the gang had no security.
