Two people died, and others were injured after a car was deliberately in a lot of Germany Mannheim’s western city, before the driver was shot.

Among the injured, five people are in a serious condition, after a black vehicle hit pedestrians on Monday, according to the German police and prosecutors.

During a press conference, reporters told the driver and intentionally thrown the car into people and is being investigated for murder and attempted murder.

They said that the man shot himself in his mouth when he was arrested and is in a stable state in the hospital. Investigators examine the possibility that it has psychological problems.

State Interior Minister Thomas Strobl said a 40-year-old man from the Renanel-Palatinated state was detained.

“In terms of the specific motivation of the crime, we have no indication of extremist or religious background at this time,” he said.

Police spokesman Stefan Wilhelm said that the incident was held on Monday around 12.15 PM, in a pedestrian part of Mannheim’s Paradeplatz area.

The armed police and forensic investigators were seen examining a black vehicle with shattered windows near the city bridge.

Local officials have added that the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) will lead the Cooperation with the Mannheim Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Initially, the police described the incident as “a situation that endangers life” in Mannheim, in the Wasserturm/Plankenkopf area.

An alert was issued on the Katwarn smartphone application – used in major emergency situations – telling people in Mannheim to avoid the city center due to a large police.

Mannheim University Hospital said that he is prepared for a possible “mass accident incident”, implementing the disaster and emergency plan and increasing the intensive care capacity, according to the German news agency DPA.

In total, eight teams of trauma have been made available – for both adults and children, according to the agency.

“The postponable operations that have not yet started have been removed immediately from the operating plan to create additional operating capacity,” the hospital said in a statement.

The crowds gathered in cities in Germany, including in its Renania region, for parades to mark the country’s carnival season.

The police were on a large alert after socializing accounts related to Islamic extremist groups requested attacks on the planned events in Cologne and Nuremberg.

Today’s incident follows similar ones in recent weeks, including a fatal car attack on a Christmas market in Magdeburg in December and another at Munich last month.

Mannheim has a population of 326,000 people and is about 50 miles south of Frankfurt.
