WKU Hosted the fourth annual out of the Darkness Suicide Prevention Walk

Bowling Green, Ky. (Wbko) – it is estimate Suicide of the cause of death number two for students, which leads to about 1,100 suicides in the university campuses per year.

A Western Kentucky University statistics hopes to calm down with the fourth annual walk of their prevention in the dark.

Saturday, March 8, the crowds will go through the university’s length. The event will start and end at the Mahurin Honors College, the Walk program starting at 11 o’clock

“There will be speeches there, there will be people who carry the beads of honor,” said co -organizer Bob Curtsinger. “This will appear how they were affected by suicide, whether it is a loved one who has been lost or if he supports those in the LGBTQ+ community or if it is a personal fight or attempt.”

The recording for the walk is free, students and residents at Bowling Green have been encouraged to participate, although funds and donations are encouraged to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

“I think it is very important because you see everyone to join and I feel that only in themselves can be there among colleagues, families and other supporters, it just shows you that you are not alone in that fight,” said co-organizer Jada Peterson.

Together with the presentation of support and solidarity for the prevention of suicide, Curtsinger and Peterson Hope events that they will open more dialogue on how to help.

“It is not something that we are talking about enough, as a community, we have to talk about it more,” said Curtsinger. “We have to make it more prominent within the mentioned community and we have to make sure that people know that they are not alone, to announce people there are resources there to help you.”
