Traffic restrictions on the Sion – Panvel highway to repair the foot bridge on March 6 | News from Mumbai

Navi Mumbai: The movement of traffic on the Sion Panvel highway will be restricted for seven hours from 23:00 to March 6 (Thursday) until 6:00 on March 7 (Friday) to facilitate the repair of Sanpada Foot Over-Bridge (FOB) damaged last month in an accident,

The Department of Public Works (PWD) has announced the program for the restriction of vehicle traffic to Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) and the Road Police.

The authorities set out to deviate the vehicles traveling from Vashi to Panvel to Palm Beach Road, before merging on the Sion-Panvel highway.

The foot over the deck was damaged when a truck collapsed in the structure at 2-3 in the morning on February 2, which led to the deterioration of its steel structure and railings. A formal inspection of PWD engineers on February 9 confirmed that certain sections of the bridge have broken.

Pedestrian access to the bridge was suspended following the accident, after the authorities considered the structure a danger of safety.

“FOB presents a risk to citizens, and repair works are mentioned to be essential to ensure public safety,” said an NMMC official.
