Felle Road Mishaps: Create alternative routes to higher institutions in Lokoja – Kogi Assembly says Govt

The parliamentarians in the Kogi State Assembly Chamber have asked the state government to create alternative routes to the two higher institutions in the state capital in order to avoid the further loss of life along the Felle-Crusher Highway in Lokoja.

In a motion of urgent public importance, the honor of Bin Ebaiya Shehu Tijani asked the state government to take measures to mitigate the continuous occurrence of the conveyor accidents along the Corusher highway. He prayed for the state government to increase measures to prevent mistakes, especially by increasing the number of law enforcement officers controlling vehicles.

Remembering the incident that led to the closure of Federal University Lokoja following the death of some students, DNA. Tijani said: “Monday, February 17, 2025, about the closing of the work for that day, an accident took place along the Cleele-Crusher road, supporting the life of the students of the Federal University Lokoja and the driver of the shuttle that transmits them.

“Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja and Federal University Lokoja are learning institutions along that route. Prior to this period, a series of accidents that claim the lives of students, residents and other road users have taken place throughout the same highway.

“If there is no reasonable thing to block the situation in Mugur, the highway, which has already been a threat for the existence of higher institutions, along that route, will aggravate the situation.

“The Kogi State Government, under the leadership of its excellence, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, the executive governor, showed persistent concern and concern for incidents that claim the lives of citizens and road users.

“It has become imperative for the state legislature to add his voice to the worrying tendency that results from constant accidents along the Cleele-Crusher highway.”

However, the parliamentarian has prayed that the state government would increase the number of speed levels and other speed limitation measures to minimize the situation.

Other prayers of the parliamentarian read: “A condolence letter should be sent to the leadership of the Federal University Lokoja on the loss of life in that accident, while congratulated them for the proactive steps to prevent the law and order in the institution.

“A greeting letter should be sent to the Executive under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for the rapid decision to bring a lasting solution by setting up a committee to examine the distant and immediate causes of the accident and to make appropriate recommendations.”

In its contribution, the member representing the constituency of the state of Ajookuta, DNA. Abu Honoru-Oiziz Jibrin, described the motion as in a timely manner, mentioning that the house should accelerate the action to avoid the subsequent loss of life on that road.

Deputy President and Member representing the constituency of Ibaji, DNA. Comfort Ojoma Nwochiola Egwaba, while thanking the engine, described the constant death on Ceale-Crusher Road as being very worrying.

“We cannot continue to follow the lives of our lost young people on that road. I am a mother; We should ask ourselves – if they were our own children, would we be quiet? His recurrence is not something we should accept.

“I detached the prayers for the state government to pay a visit to the road on that road. The loss of innocent life on that road is a problem that the state government should approach. The government should take quick measures to reduce or stop the reappearance of this sad incident. “

Also, speaking, Mrs. Seyi Bello, a member representing the constituency of Kabba Bunu state, while aligning with the prayers of the motion, added that the state government should build pedestrian bridges around all higher institutions in Lokoja.

He asked the state government to collaborate with the Federal Road Safety Corps to ensure the safety of pedestrians.

The parliamentarian also suggested that the state government should prohibit the movement of heavy vehicles and trucks on the road, stressing that similar measures have been implemented in other states and have successfully avoided victims.

In his decision, the president of the house, Rt. Dur shoulder Yusuf, asked the state government to create alternative routes to the two higher institutions in the Cleele-Crusher axis.

The house has also resolved that the leaders of the Road Crusher community should think outside the box, considering the spiritual aspect to determine the frequent causes of accidents on that route.

Also, the speaker pleaded with the school management to reconsider the reopening of the school for academic activities.
