Decision against pediatric surgeon Peter Beale will be sent to HPCSA for additional examination

Johannesburg – the judgment against pediatric surgeon Peter Beale will be sent to the South African health professional council (HPCSA) for further examination.

Beale, who was arrested in 2019 and charged with the death of three minor patients, and two fraud accusations were not found guilty at the High Court of Joburg Tuesday afternoon.

He was stripped of his HPCSA permit in 2022, but can still be reinstalled with a permit if he chooses to continue to practice.

Pediatric surgeon Peter Beale barely escaped when Judge Thifhelimbilu (Ti-Fi-Lim-Bilu) Mudau issued a decision at the High Court of Joburg, finding that he is not guilty for three charges and two accusations of fraud.

Beale was accused of killing three of his minor patients who operated in 2012, 2016 and 2019 respectively.

All children died shortly after the operation.

Despite the South African healthcare council who stripped Beale from the operating license in 2022, Judge Mudau says he would have to study his judgment regarding one of his victims, in which Beale acknowledged that he left the boy’s care, despite the fact that he knew for his life.

“This decision should be sent to HPCSA for examination, if the accused considers to be pursuing his practice.”

Mudau previously decided that the names of Beale’s victims should not be advertised to protect families.
