Former director of the Senior Upshur Center accused of misappropriation | News, sports, jobs

Buckhannon – the former executive director of the Senior Center of Upshur County was arrested for taking over $ 79,000 in the center.

Tracie Thompson, 49, from Elkins, was arrested and charged on Tuesday at the Upshur County Magistrate Court with delapidation, an offense.

Thompson is accused of embezzled $ 79,237.43 from the Upshur County Senior Center, between November 18, 2022 2023.

According to the criminal complaint, compiled by SGT. Theron Caynor, from the Department of the Sheriff of Upshur County, on February 28, Thompson, who was also the former Manager of Country Roads Transit, was employed to be the executive director of the Upshur County Vinity on October 25, 2021 and remained with the center until June 26, 2024.

During her time as executive director, Thompson, according to the complaint, provided a Mastercard credit card that was attached to the Center of Senior, with the invoices listed on her behalf.

According to the complaint, Thompson “He did not follow the policies of the Senior Center and did not have the permission of the Board of Directors to obtain this credit card.”

After Thompson left the center’s hiring in June 2024, the new executive director, Brett Belt, received credit card invoices that do not match the books used at the Senior Center, according to the complaint.

After Belt contacted the credit card company, the card information was provided to a certified fraud CPA, which found that, between November 18, 2022 and March 31, 2023, the card was used approximately 800 times for purchases that does not refer to the center, the complaint shows.

A large model of purchases were followed in Elkins stores, according to the complaints. Caynor said he has issued several water search warrants, electricity company and mobile records. According to Caynor, these records show that Thompson was “Making payments for the home address, as well as goods and services for her and others in the household.”
