Yankees It is only a few weeks until spring training, but the error of injury has already affected it. Two players were expecting to play significant roles in 2025 – Giancarlo Stanton and Luis Gil – are now on the shelf to open the season. Although no loss is necessarily changed by the season, both will require a creative list of the list to mitigate the impact.

Stanton’s uncertain chronology

Stanton He recently received PRP injections in both elbows and will start the regular season on the injured list. He also deals with a personal problem that has kept him away from the camp, but the wait is that he will refer to Tampa in the coming days.

While Stanton’s absence to start the year is a delay, his general value for the team is strongly related to what he can do in the postsezon. Last year, he posted an 116 WRC+, hitting .233/.298/.475 with 27 homers and 72 RBI. Its basic percentage has decreased below 30% for three consecutive seasons, and its durability continues to be a concern.

Yankees know that keeping healthy for the second half of the season is the priority, so the loss of now is not the worst scenario.

Meanwhile, they have options to replace their bat in the role of designated hit, Ben Rice being the most interesting candidate. Rice broke the lid on the ball at the beginning of spring training and could provide an immediate offensive spark.

Gil faces a long way back

While Stanton’s absence is manageable, Luis Gil’s injury is a much bigger problem. Al Rookie of the year suffered a high quality stalk during a bullpen session last week and is now facing an extended recovery chronology.

Gil will not throw at least six weeks, two weeks more than the rehabilitation chronology Clarke Schmidt followed for a similar injury last year. The Yankees will approach his caution recovery, which means he may not return until the beginning of summer.

This is just another chapter in the history of Gil’s injury, which has already included two elbow surgery. Some speculated that the Yankees should have explored his trading this season while his value was at his peak. Now, the history of his wounds grows more, and the Yankees are allowed to figure out how to play their role in rotation.

Who fills the gaps?

With Gil, the Yankees will probably go to a combination of Marcus Stroman and Prospect Will Warren. Stroman, now 33 years old, has been in commercial discussions for months, but the Yankees might be forced to keep him around to stabilize the rear end of the rotation. Its declining speed and diving in the attack numbers is a Wild Card, but its experience offers at least one reliability.

On the other hand, Warren represents the option above. The 25 -year -old 25 years old, he fought in his short MLB last season, but his things are electric, and he showed sharp in the spring outings at the beginning of spring. He hits blows at a high pace, and his quick slider combination was particularly effective. If Stroman collapses at the beginning of the season, Warren could quickly find in a more prominent role.

For now, Yankees will hope for a smooth recovery process for both Stanton and Gil. But, with two significant pieces already marked, their depth will be tested earlier than expected.
