Woonsocout, Steven Poricelli gymnastics teacher, convicted of child’s molest

Providence, Ri – a former Woonsocout gymnastics teacher was ordered to meet 10 years in prison for the molest of a girl under the age of 14 in Warwick in 2023.

Steven Poricelli, 53, from Warwick, was convicted by a jury in October last yearin a three-day trial during which the girl testified against him. He was found guilty of two accusations to move the second -degree children.

On February 28, the judge of the Superior Court Luis M. Matos sentenced Porricelli to 25 years to the correctional institutions for adults, with 10 years to serve 25 years of evidence. Also, the judge ordered Purricelli to register as a sexual offender and to participate in the counseling of sexual criminals. He is not allowed to have any contact with the girl.

“Children victims of sexual aggression bear unimaginable pain, the kind that most of us cannot understand. … The consequences of such a trauma to the hands of a trusted adult are modified by life, “said prosecutor General Peter F. Neronha, in a statement. “However, the incredible courage shown by this victim in the presentation allowed us to seek justice and responsibility on her behalf, ensuring that this defendant faces the appropriate consequences.”

Detective Warwick, Adam Arico and special assistant lawyers, Arthur Defleice and Megan Andrews, led the investigation and prosecution.

The head of the Warwick police, Bradford E. Connor, thanked them for the work done in this case, but said that they would not have been possible without the victim’s testimony.

“I am very grateful to know that justice will be served in this terrible case,” Connor said.
