Berlin to suspend help to Rwanda over RDC

Berlin: Germany said on Tuesday that it will suspend the new aid to Rwanda for an offensive of the M23 Group in the East Congo Democratic Republic, which the UN experts say is supported by Rwanda soldiers. “Germany will continue to restrict bilateral cooperation with Rwanda,” the Ministry of Development said in a statement. “In particular, we will suspend new financial commitments (and) we will examine the existing development cooperation with the Ruandez government.”

The ministry said that it “condemns the offensive”, especially the capture of the main cities Goma and Bukavu, which labeled “a violation of territorial integrity and sovereignty” RDC. The German Ministry of Development for Rwanda has an average of about 50 million euros per year, in areas such as economic development, production of vaccines and climate protection.

The offensive by M23 has attracted large -scale international conviction. The German movement comes after the UK has recently suspended the most directly bilateral aid to Rwanda, and Canada has imposed sanctions on the country. Rwanda was informed in advance about the German decision, the ministry said. – AFP
