The annual driver of Burn Institute fire boots starts in San Diego county

San Diego (CNS) – Firefighters from over 30 departments will be at intersections in San Diego county, on Wednesday morning, to collect donations for survival services of the Burn Institute, together with the fire prevention and burns education.

According to the Burn Institute, all the money raised from the 26th annual start of firefighters on Wednesday will “remain locally in San Diego” and will benefit from programs such as camp beyond scars, which help children with burning injuries.

“This priceless camp program has provided a safe place for hundreds of young burns survivors to share their experiences in a supporting and nourishing environment,” the Institute officials said.

Peter Callstrom, the Executive Director of the Institute, said that the fire departments “are committed to the starting unit to ensure that we can continue to support the victims of burns and provide education to prevent future trauma.”

Now, in the 53rd year, the Nonprofit Burn Institute helps to burn survivors and their families in San Diego and the Imperial Valley, offering “proactive education and resources to prevent burns” for tens of thousands every year, officials added.

Services include safe seniors, which offer free smoke alarms for 62 and larger, and Fire Safe Kids, an education program. The Burn Institute also offers free resources to prevent wild fire.

Residents can donate during the ship or to Burninstate.org.
