The free camp throughout the year is on 84 acres in the native city of Randleman, North Carolina, about 75 miles west of Raleigh. It is designed for children with conditions that include cancer, kidney and heart disease, cerebral paralysis, spina bifida and a series of neurological and physical disabilities.

Whitetop became known for his relaxed, sweet and empathetic personality. His move is to stretch while his pets, which can comfort the children and give them an important sensory contribution, said Billie Davis, the camp barn.

“He really gets to help the champions get out of the shell when he interacts with him,” she said. “He can be a kind of intimidant at first, but once they come to him and love him and pets on him, they realize how sweet he is.”

One of his best friends is A miniature cow Highland Named Gus-Gus, which tends to forget Whitetop is a blade and likes to jump on it. Whitetop also likes to roll in fresh wood chips, crawl on the soaked alfalfa and pose for selfie.

“If you try to take a picture with him, he is not in it,” Davis said. “He will, as he would scoot there and try to get his face out of a side profile so that he is as if he were misleading.”

Davis attributes Whitetop’s long life to great care and veterinary exercises, as well as simply loving.

The average lifespan of a blade is 15 years, according to Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance.

Whitetop has developed arthritis in his twilight years, but otherwise he is very healthy, Davis said. And the only ones or the Lama is upset is when Gus-Gus, along with two miniature donkeys called Jed and Jethro, leave him alone.

Stephanie Wilkerson, 33, went for the first time in the 2006 camp family, after being diagnosed with type 1. Diabetes. She said she was initially a little nervous around Whitetop, but soon she realized that she did and gave her a hug.

“When I started to comfort him more and more, I relaxed more,” said Wilkerson, who lives in Thomasville, North Carolina.

With Whitetop’s new fame in longevity, the camp has begun to sell limited edition shirts that display Whitetop with sunglasses and the words “Still Spit’n”. The revenues go to the camp.

Although Davis said Whitetop would like people to know all the lamps spit on you.

“Usually, Llamas spit only when they are scared, uncomfortable or territorial,” she said. “And he loves his job so much that he does not.”
