Iceland’s commercial deficit suddenly widens at imports

Jakarta (DPA -AFX) – The Foreign Trade Deficit of Iceland has increased especially in January a year ago, because imports increased much faster than exports, figures from statistics showed on Thursday.

The commercial difference widened at 57.9 billion ISK in January from ISK 20.6 billion in the corresponding month last year.

The value of exports increased by 1.0 percent annually in January, and imports increased by 37.0 percent. Imports of capital goods, except for transport, jumped 148 percent compared to last year, and marine product exports showed a decrease of 8.0 percent.

In the last 12 months, the deficit of the balance of the trade in goods has been ISK 421.7 billion or with 50.4 billion ISK less favorable than in the last 12 months.
