Two men accused after entering school being used as flood shelter

Pike County, Ky. (WYMT) – Two men were arrested after they were accused of trying to take the objects of flood victims inside an elementary school in Pike County.

On Tuesday, Kentucky State Police Troops responded to a complaint of a theft at Mullins elementary school.

The officials with the Red Cross told the troops that a “flood victim” who was in the room told them that they caught someone outside passing through a window of the class trying to have access to the objects in the room.

The troops contact a man, identified as Curtis Murphy.

Once Murphy was arrested, the police examined the photo materials in which David Helsel helped open the window to enter the classroom. Later, the police learned that Helsel was using a chair to step out the window.

Murphy was supposed to have been seen on a surveillance video that was walking trying to get behind the gym.

Later, the police discovered through the filming that Murphy was seen stealing objects from other people inside the sports hall.

It seems that Helsel did not enter the class, but was seen pulling the window completely open, damaging the hinges.

Murphy was accused of grade second and second -degree criminal mistakes. Helsel was accused of theft in the second degree (complicity), criminal mistakes in the second degree and the second -degree disordered behavior.

The two men were taken to the detention center in Pike County.
