Legislation for strengthening the application against the Flippers of the registration plates in the Tennessee house

The room of the representatives of Tennessee adopted the legislation that gave the law officers the authority to confiscate the registration devices and to enter vehicles.

House Bill 300, sponsored by the state representative, Greg Martin, allows the officers to confiscate the registration plates and involve the vehicle if a registration plate flipper is used. The draft law includes guarantees for vehicle owners. If the owner or operator is present, they will have the opportunity to remove the device before taking any action.

If the owner removes the flipper, the officers will only take over the device as smuggling, and the vehicle will not be imposed.

“This legislation is an important step in ensuring the safety and discretion of our officers, while combating illegal use of flippers with registration plates,” said Rep. Martin. “We offer a clear process for the officers to take over these devices, while offering the owners of the vehicles a chance to safely eliminate them before taking measures.”

If the vehicle is imposed, the owner will be responsible for all trailers, tax taxes and reasonable costs to eliminate the registration plate flipper.

The draft law aims to reduce the use of registration flippers, which obscure or modify the vehicle identification numbers and prevent the efforts to apply the law to follow the criminal activity.

Rep. Martin adopted a law in 2024 which made the manufacture and selling of registration plates flippes a class A crime and holding a class B.

“The extension of the works we started last year, House Bill 300 continues to improve our ability to protect public safety and to respond to those who misuse these devices,” said Rep. Martin.
The draft law of the company, the draft law of the Senate 296, has unanimously passed on the Senate floor.
