Clark County Officials hold the Immigration City Hall for business owners, employees

Las Vegas, nev. (Fox5) – As immigration issues continue to grow, local businesses work to ensure that their employees know their rights to work. Commissioner of Clark Segerblom County hosted an immigration City Hall on Thursday.

Business owners and employees gathered to learn how to deal with a possible immigration raid. Experts say that preparation is essential and, although there are no confirmed reports on large -scale raids in Nevada, they urge the community to remain informed about their rights.

“Be careful, but don’t be terrified,” said Segerblom.

This was the message from the City Hall, where the local leaders and legal experts worked to replace the fear with knowledge.

Within Nevada, immigration issues left many workers and business owners not to make sure to do if the federal agents come to beat. Officials have hoped that the event on Thursday will help clarify the confusion and will provide the community to protect themselves.

“So, not just say, God, if they present themselves, I will be in a plane tomorrow, wherever you have many rights and you know these rights,” said Segerblom.

One of the business leaders was Cristina Blasquez, the director of El Mercado, a shopping center that serves as a cultural and economic hub for the Latin community in Las Vegas. She says that concern and uncertainty around immigration will not disappear soon, but events like they prevent the disinformation.

“So, we have to inform them and keep them calmly, because our clientele is quite large, this is the place for them. So, we want to feel comfortable and feel safe, ”said Blasquez.

Blasquez says the stakes are big and not only for her, but for thousands of people connected to her business.

“This is an ecosystem and is probably integrated by 2000 people,” Blasquez said. “They have families, they have friends, they have people who depend on them, so we want to convey the information for who is interested in listening to it and learning about it.”

ACLU from Nevada has provided legal guidance on the rights of work, explaining that business owners have a response plan with employees, train staff so as not to run away and not to offer permission to enter the workplace.

Segerblom says the message is clear – this community is together.

“Immigration is the spine of our economy. If the immigrants left today we would be closed. “He added.
