The Ex -Rotary Club of President Merritt is advocated guilty of aggravated aggression in Keremos – Penticton News

Former President of the Rotary Club in Merritt was declared guilty of aggravated aggression at the Penticton Court, for a vicious attack against his ex -wife, who took place on March 20, 2024, in Kemeos.

Brian Gene Reum, 68, was initially accused of attempted murder and aggression aggravated about this incident.

The justice Shannon Keyes asked Reum numerous questions to make sure he made the decision to be guilty of his own referee and that he acknowledged that he was the perpetrator of an aggravated attack, which he did.

Standing behind his lawyer Jas Mangat from a room in the lower continent, Reum acknowledged that he gave up his right to a trial in this matter and that he understood that Keyes did not agree with sending the convictions provided by his lawyer or the lawyer of the Crown Short, who also spoke through his video conference.

Short told the court that the attempt to kill against Reum will be left now, when he said guilty for an aggravated aggression.

Although no evidence was presented in the short court hearing on Tuesday, Reum’s ex -wife submitted a civilian file against him, to which he was accessed by Herald.

The civil process, submitted last July, claims that Reum and the woman had entered a heated argument and he attacked him from behind and tried to cut his neck with a deleted hunting knife.

“He then tried to stab,” the court document said.

Reum filed a response to the civilian request of October 2024, just a few weeks after his arrest rejecting the accusations in the claim declaration, further affirming these charges would be harmful to the criminal charges.

“After the criminal prosecution has concluded other factual details regarding the conduct and the actions of the defendant will be provided by the defendant in a modified response to a civil request,” the response of Rum.

The ex-wife also claims that Reum tried to snatch her with a pillow less than three weeks after they were married before the knife incident.

Reum was accused of attempted murder and aggravated aggression in September, before being released on bail.

The civil process claims that the woman lived in Kemeos and she and reum began to live together in March 2023, before marrying in February 2024.

The knife attack took place just a few weeks after they were married, the court of the court said.

The woman filed a divorce shortly after the alleged attack.

Reum was once the elected president of the Meritt Rotary Club.

A search for judicial documents indicates reum has no previous criminal convictions in British Colombia.

Mangat asked Keyes to have a pre-sent report to be prepared “with a psychological component” before his client returned to court.

He should last about 10 weeks for that report to be completed, he said.

Reum was scheduled to appear at Courthouse Penticton on February 26 to make a decision on the trial in front of a judge and jury or judge alone.

Instead, his lawyer rescheduled a court on Tuesday and the guilty pleading of aggravated aggression took place.

Reum no longer lives in Kemeos, but lives instead in the lower continent.

Reum and his lawyer and short will make their next appearance at the Pentecoton Court on May 13, where he will be set for conviction.
