Protests at national level burst into Bangladesh after a brutal 8 -year -old attack

Dhaka: Tasted by the brutal attack of an eight-year-old girl from Magura, Citizens of Bangladesh went out on Sunday, demanding more strict measures to reduce violence against women and children, according to local media.

So far, Magura Police has arrested four people about the attack.

In response to the incident, teachers and students of the Dhaka University organized a protest rally on Campus earlier. The demonstration, organized by the network of university professors, started at 11:00 at the foot of the iconic sculpture Defenseoo Bangla, with the rally starting at 11:45.

In Rajshahi, hundreds of students at Rajshahi University boycotted their classes and exams, blocking the Dhaka-Drashahi highway for almost half an hour. Students have asked for quick actions and tougher punishments for the perpetrators of sexual violence to ensure women’s safety.

Also, the protests broke out at the Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia, where the students blocked the Khulna-Kushtia highway near the main gate of the university. The demonstration followed a protest march that started from the Botatola area of ​​the University at noon, reports the main daily Dhaka Tribune.

The students asked for the death penalty for those accused of such attractive crimes.

Meanwhile, save children, who have been working actively for child protection in Bangladesh for over five decades, condemned the incident Magura. The organization expressed a deep concern for increasing violence against women and children in the country.

In a statement, Save The Children highlighted the alarming statistics, revealing that 2,362 women and girls were facing violence this year, including 1,036 children. The organization has asked the Government to ensure the rapid justice for the survivor Magura and to strengthen the protection systems to prevent such incidents.

Shumon Sengupta, the director of the country Save The Children in Bangladesh, stressed the need for systemic reforms.

“We ask justice for the victim of this horrible crime. The authorities must ensure that the perpetrators are rapidly led to the trial. With almost 40 % of the victims of violence, urgent reforms are needed to protect their well-being, especially that of young girls,” SenguTa said.

She stressed that prevention begins with changing society’s thoughts to give priority to child protection. Sengupta continued to add that the establishment of strong family and community protection mechanisms is crucial to prevent violence, abuse and exploitation.

In a significant legal development, a court in Bangladesh directed the immediate elimination of all the images of the survivor Magura on Social Media, according to the local media.

The Bank of the High Court, made up of the Farah Mahbub justice and the Debasish Roy Chowdhury justice, issued the Directive on Sunday, after taking a media report in this regard. The court trained the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission in Bangladesh (BTRC) to ensure the prompt elimination of content.

LT General (RETD) MD Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, a counselor for the interim government business led by Muhammad Yunus, ensured that the Government is employed to ensure that the accused is facing justice. He stressed that those responsible for such attractive crimes will not be allowed to evade responsibility.

The protests reflect the frustration increasing among the citizens who request immediate reforms to improve the safety for women and children, along with the stricter application of the laws to prevent such crimes in the future.
