Trump Admin holds the protest leader on the pro-Palestinian campus

New York – Immigration officers arrested a leader of protests at Colombia University against the Israel War in Gaza, authorities said on Sunday, after US President Donald Trump has promised to deport the Pro -Palestinian Students.

Mahmoud Khalil, one of the most prominent faces of the University’s protest movement that broke out in response to the Israel War, was arrested on Sunday, the Department of Internal Security (DHS) on XS.

The Agency stated that the action was taken “in support of the executive orders of President Trump who prohibits anti -Semitism and coordinating with the State Department.”

Students’ students from the Columbia Union said in a statement that Khalil was detained on Saturday, describing him as “a recent graduate of Colombia and negotiator in Palestinian Colombia for the Solidarity Camp last spring.”

American campuses, including Colombia in New York, have been shaken by student protests against the Israel War in Gaza following the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023. Demonstrations lit the accusations of anti -Semitism.

The protests, some of them were violently transformed and saw that the campus buildings were occupied and the disturbed lectures, put the students protesting against Israel’s behavior against Pro-Israel campaigns, many of them Jews.

American Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, wrote on X that “we will revoke the visas and/or the green books of Hamas supporters in America, so that it can be deported.”

Khalil, who remains in detention of immigration, has held permanent residence at the time of his arrest, causing thousands of people to sign a petition requesting his release, added the union statement.

“We are also aware of several reports on immigration and customs application agencies that access or try to access the buildings on the Columbia campus on Friday and Saturday, including license camels,” the union said.

Colombia did not directly approach Khalil’s arrest in response to investigations, but in a statement he said that “there were ice reports on the streets around the campus.”

“Colombia has and will continue to comply with the law. In accordance with our long-term practice and the practice of cities and institutions throughout the country, law enforcement must have a judicial mandate to enter non-public university areas, including university buildings,” Colombia said.

In his post on X, DHS said that Khalil “led the activities aligned with Hamas, a designated terrorist organization”, without additional details.

Trump came in front of the student protest movement to the Gaza conflict and promised to deport foreign students who demonstrated.

He also threatened to interrupt federal funding for the institutions he said do not do enough to combat anti -Semitism.

His administration announced on Friday that he will reduce $ 400 million in federal subsidies to Colombia University, accusing him of not being able to protect Jewish students against harassment.
