Harare, March 14, (Newsdaylive)-a woman in the Quarry area of Rural Kariba is lucky to be alive after being attacked by a hyena while sleeping outdoors at her home Sunday night.

The incident took place around 7:00 pm, when Stella Muzambi was at her house on the outskirts of the village.

According to eyewitnesses, the same hyena had been observed at a store nearby earlier and was expelled by the villagers.

The hyena then fled to the waterfall of Muzambi, where he found it sleeping outside.

He dragged him for a few meters before the villagers came to her rescue, but not before applying serious injuries, separating his right hand.

Muzambi was initially taken to the Nyamhunga clinic before being transferred to Kariba District Hospital and, finally, to Provincial Chinhoyi Hospital.

The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management (Zimparks) authority warned the communities that live near the wild fauna habitats and take the necessary precautionary measures to prevent such attacks.

However, many residents in these areas do not have access to safe homes and have to sleep outdoors, especially in hot summer months, when temperatures rise.
