In a shocking case of voyeuristic theft and behavior, a 25-year-old engineer was arrested in Tumkuru, Karnataka, because he repeatedly stole women from a nearby girls’ pension. Despite the suffering caused to the victims, many of them refrained from lodging formal complaints because of the fear of social stigma.

The accused, identified as Sharat, resident of IV Cross, site, Tumkuru, was caught following a police investigation triggered by several reports about missing linen. According to police, Sharat was addicted to pornography and systematically targeted pensions and houses in the site, SS Puram and Ashoknagar.

The case came to light after residents noticed that the interior clothing frequently disappears. Initially he hesitates to report the problem, the students in the pension finally informed the administration, who was then close to the Tumkuru Police. The police examined the CCTV materials in the area and identified a suspicious scooter frequently near the pension. Filming has clearly shown a man who engages in theft and running away from the stage.

After his arrest, Sharat confessed that he stole the women’s linen on several occasions. He acknowledged that his actions were determined by an explicit content addiction and an impulsive desire to steal.

The police have revealed that Sharat comes from a well-respected family from Chikkanayakanhalli, Tumkuru district. His parents, both teachers and his older brother, also an engineer, were not aware of his activities until the police intervention. The family expressed his shock and unbelief in learning his actions.

Despite his arrest, the police faced difficulties in building a strong case because of the desire to testify. A senior police officer said that many of the affected students are afraid of embarrassment and social repercussions, which caused them to refuse to file official complaints.

Following his confession, Sharat was released on bail with a severe warning against any other crime. The police stressed that while the victims chose not to follow legal actions, they remain committed to ensure the safety and security of young women in the area.
