Kuwait traffic violations decreased in the first week of March, before the implementation of the new law.

Kuwait City, March 10: The weekly statistics published by the General Traffic Department have revealed a notable decrease of about 10,000 violations in the week of March 1 – March 7, compared to the previous week. During this period there were registered in a total of 30,924 violations, while the previous week (February 22 – February 28) registered 40,045 violations.

A comparison between the weekly statistics of February and the first week of March has highlighted some key changes. In particular, only 14 young people were arrested for driving without the driving license in the latest data, while 44 minors were arrested in the previous week, marking a decrease of 30 cases.

This decrease in violations comes about 40 days before the new traffic law enters into force on April 22.

As for traffic accidents, statistics showed 1,383 accidents in February. However, in the first week of March, 1,518 accidents were reported, according to AL-ANBA traffic data.

The statistics, which came from the ongoing traffic campaigns and from the organized security, also revealed several arrests. Among them were 14 young people, who were referred to the minor pursuit, as well as 52 people who commit serious violations, who were referred to the traffic department. In addition, 179 vehicles and 10 motorcycles were imposed for violations, including illegal nuance and causing excessive noise.

Weekly campaigns also led to the arrest of 6 expatriates who violate the laws of residence, 10 desired persons, 5 persons found in the possession of the drugs and 3 persons trapped under the influence of intoxicants or drugs.

Regarding the 1,518 traffic accidents managed by the General Traffic Department, 243 led to injuries or deaths, while 1,275 accidents were limited to material damage.

The statistics of the traffic officers also highlighted what departments the most violations recorded. Hawalli officers led with 5,89 violations, followed by Farwaniya officers with 5,389 violations and highway officers with 4,019 violations. Capital traffic officers ranked fourth with 3,883 violations.

It is important to note that the new traffic law will impose strict sanctions, including the revocation of the driving license for the first time, if two violations are committed in the first year. The law also presents punishments, such as three months in prison and fines between 150 and 300 dinars for driving without a permit. In cases involving reckless or neglected or neglected leadership after an accident, punishments include imprisonment up to one year. Drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs are facing imprisonment up to two months and fines of up to 3,000 dinars, while violations such as parking on sidewalks or headlights could lead to fines between 45 and 75 dinars. In addition, a fine of up to 200 dinars is prepared for driving without brakes.

In accidents that have led to death or injury, the vehicle permit of the responsible driver or the operating permit will be detained by the police or investigator, who will send the case of the competent authority within 24 hours.
