Dog owners asked to protect Mia in Exmoor National Park

A national park reminded people to hold their dogs on a lead in the rural area, after two sheep were killed in a suspicious attack by dogs.

The authority of the EXMOOR National Park in Somerset said that dogs should always be under “tight control” when walking close to animals.

They added that, especially in the spring, sheep could be pregnant and more vulnerable than usual.

“Unfortunately, I had a few sheep killed in the last days by a free dog,” said Dan Barnett, at the Authority of the Exmoor National Park.

Mr. Barnett added: “Dogs should always be under control. This means they are coming back as soon as they are called and stay with you a few meters.

“If you can’t do this, a dog should be in front of you when you are in the rural area.”

Tim Parish, who has been Ranger in the Exmoor National Park for more than 20 years, said: “We have a mothers full of mothers who will come out with their new lambs on the fields on Exmoor.

“What is so important is that if you are with your dog, please keep it on lead,” he explained.
