Benue: Judicial Ordinance, Tribunal Force Protests for endless procedures

The petition court of the petition for the local state elections in Benue suspended the procedures endlessly.

The Daily Post gathered that the court made the decision after acknowledging a court order from the High Federal Court in Makurdi, which on Friday prevented it from organizing sessions at NBA House, Abuja or any other place outside the state.

The RK Egbe justice considered that any plan to hold the court in a place outside the state of Benue should be suspended or waiting waiting for the hearing and determining the motion for notification.

The decision to postpone endlessly came just a few minutes after a protest at the NBA headquarters in Abuja, where the protesters condemned the controversial relocation of the Court and asked for the immediate return of the state of Benue.

Also, the protesters demanded that no lawyer represent any petitioner or respondent in court, because the chief judge of the state of Benue “insists on illegality, and his actions are equivalent to the destruction of the judicial system with his trivial feeling above justice.”

By addressing news from the NBA House, the respondent’s lawyer, Sunday, confirmed that the group informed them about the decision to suspend the meeting in Abuja following the judicial order.

He said they would wait for a new meeting for stay.

We remind that the governor of the state of Benue, Hyacinth Alia, has guided residents to stay away from the places of the petitions of the local government in progress in Makurdi, Gboko and Otukpo, citing security issues.

Alia said that the Directive aims to ensure the safety of judges, lawyers, petitioners and witnesses involved in the court procedures.

To strengthen security, Alia also forbade protests, unauthorized meetings and commercial activities, such as Hawking around the Tribunal places.

“In the interest of maintaining the law and order, His Excellency has banned any form of protest, unauthorized assembly or business activities within and around the court. Anyone who was found who violates this directive will face legal consequences ”, warned a statement published by the governor’s spokesman.

Currently, the courts manage the disputes arising from the elections of the local state administration in Benue, made on October 5, 2024.

The reports indicate that 93 petitioners, including agreed candidates from both the All Progressives and the Democratic Party of the people, have filed cases on the court of October 17, 2024.
