Senator Blackburn introduces the Bipartidist law project to protect the elderly from the scams of meeting applications

Nashville, Tenn. (WSMV) – US Senator Marsha Blackburn (R -TN) has introduced a new legislation that would help prevent the scam of meeting applications.

Senator Blackburn team with Senator John Hickenlooper (D-CO) to introduce the law to prevent romantic scam. The draft law would require online meeting services to inform users if they interact with a potential scam.

“The scammers are merciless in their exploitation of the elderly who join the meeting applications to establish significant connections, but instead they lose their life savings towards artists who are taught at their vulnerabilities,” said Blackburn. “The Law on prevention of romantic deception would put into effect critical guarantees to protect all users from meeting applications – but especially the elderly – fraudulent schemes.”

Meeting cheaters became more frequent, the Federal Trade Commission reported that scams had led to victims of $ 1.3 billion in 2022.

The representative of David Valadao (R-CA) leads the effort to introduce this legislation into the house.

“Online meetings have become an increasingly common way for people to connect, but unfortunately it is also an instrument for scams who want to take advantage of users who do not respect,” Valadao said. “Romantic scams use fake identities to build their confidence and exploit their financial victims, which cost Americans over a billion dollars a year. This bipartidist law, Bicameral offers transparency, allows users to make knowledge and to strengthen best practices to prevent online scams. I am proud to help lead the effort to make the online meeting and to protect Americans from all ages from financial fraud. “

With this proposed legislation, meeting applications would also be necessary to provide users and advice to prevent them from being cheated. This includes Tips offered by Better Business Bureausuch as avoiding sending money to another user.
