The residential fire on Sydney Street started accidentally, says Charlottetown official

A fire that seriously damaged an apartment building in Sydney Street on March 5 was accidentally determined, caused by “the careless use of a candle,” says a spokesman for Charlottetown.

Two people had to be treated in the hospital, after the emergency crews responded to the fire at 88-90 Sydney St., at 12 people.

Tim Mamye, the chief of firefighters of the city, said at the time that the “stubborn fire” started on the third floor and ate in the attic space.

The answer involved three fire engine engines in District 1, a Fire engine in District 2, a rescue truck and a ladder truck.

About 45 to 50 firefighters worked to quench the flames from 14:15 on the day it started until after midnight.
