The jury was blocked in the case of California judge accused of killing wife

A myistial was declared in the trial on Monday against a Judge of the Higher Court of California Accused of killing his wife after a jury in Orange County failed to reach a verdict in this case.

Jeffrey Ferguson was charged on August 3, 2023, killing his 65 -year -old wifeSheryl Ferguson, in Anaheim, California, the house. The couple’s son reported the shot to the authorities, and Ferguson was arrested the same night.

The 74-year-old man, who did not plead guilty in this case, acknowledged that he shot his wife. But he supported during the process that shocked the community in southern California that it was an accident, according to The Los Angeles Times.

The jurors deliberate for eight days. They were divided between 11 and 1 in favor of Ferguson’s conviction under charges of murder, but said that they could not reach a consensus.

The judge of the Superior Court of Los Angeles, Eleanor J. Hunter, said a myistics in this case – but that does not mean that it has been completed for Ferguson.

What happened during the process?

The prosecutors accused Ferguson of intentionally killed his wife after losing his temper during a drunk argument. They at that time showed Ferguson’s blood alcohol level, which was twice assumed the legal limit at the time of his wife’s death.

During the testimonyFerguson said he puts his weapon on a coffee table at the request of his wife, when a pain in his right arm caused him to accidentally shoot the weapon, Los Angeles Times informed.

Ferguson said during the trial, he and his wife fought for the money they sent to his raised son from a previous marriage, according to The Times.

What happens next?

Orange County District Lawyer, Todd Spitzer, said his office is ready Recurre -to the case. Prosecutors are looking at April 7 or May 19 for a new trial against Ferguson. If he is convicted of second degree murder, he could face between 40 years and life in prison.

But this is not necessarily what Sheryl Ferguson’s family wants. In a press conference after the trial, Sheryl Ferguson’s youngest brother, Larry Rosen, said he was “temporarily happy” with the results and said that his family did not believe that Ferguson had intentionally killed his sister.

“I personally, on behalf of the family, I would like to share that everyone does not believe that Jeff Ferguson has committed a crime,” Rosen said.

Cameron Talley, Ferguson’s lawyer, said he hopes he could create an agreement with prosecutors based on Ferguson’s age and the support he received from his wife’s brother, according to The Associated Press.

Spitzer said that his office respected the views of Sheryl Ferguson’s family, but thought there was “overwhelming” to show Jeffrey Ferguson’s intention to kill his wife.

“Students in one is a success in the world in which we work,” Spitzer told reporters. “She died with cold blood and we will get justice in our best capacity.”
