The social worker says Kelly Smith refused help when Joshlin disappeared

Saldanha Bay – a social worker said that Joshlin Smith’s mother refused the help of social services when her daughter disappeared.

Siliziwe Mbambo confessed on Tuesday at the High Court of Western Cape, where the process of kidnapping and trafficking in persons.

Little Joshlin was reported disappeared in 2024 from her house in Saldanha Gulf.

Her mother, Kelly Smith, Jacquen Appollis and Stevano Van Rhyn are accused of selling the child of an unknown woman.

Mbambo detailed how Smith consumed drugs while she was pregnant with Joshlin.

She told the court that, in 2016, Smith’s eldest child lived with her grandmother, who asked for social services due to the neglect of the child.

Mbambo said in 2017, grandmother kicked out on Smith in her house, because she still consumes drugs.

The social worker told the court that he had made various efforts to make Smith in a shelter after Joshlin disappeared.

Mbambo said Smith refused to reserve, saying he wants to be part of Joshlin’s search.

The Department of Social Development later managed to bring Smith’s two children into maternal assistance.
