The Riverhead man pleads guilty in a fatal accident with 7 vehicles

A man from Riverhead pleaded guilty of aggravated vehicles and other accusations related to driving and caused a collision with seven cars that killed his passenger and injured others last summer, Suffolk law officials said.

Cristian Mendoza-Baquuiax, 37 years old, from Riverhead, was guilty of causing a multiple vehicle accident on August 7, who killed one of his passengers, Nelson Reyes-Muxin, 33 years old, from Riverhead, and sent other passengers, in addition, in addition to the local courses. Mendoza-Baquuiax presented signs of intoxication while at the scene of the accident “and said he has six beers,” according to the district lawyer statement. After the Riverhead police placed it in arrest, he was transported to the University Hospital Stony Brook for the treatment of wounds and agreed to extract his blood for testing. The results of the toxicology from two samples taken at different times, one by the hospital staff and one of the police, revealed alcohol concentrations of .25% and .21%, respectively, said Tierney’s office.

At his initial notification of August 21, Mendoza-Baquuiax pleaded guilty for a litany of accusations regarding the accident, according to judicial documents.

On Tuesday, Mendoza-Baquuiax was guilty before the judge of the Supreme Court, Steven A. Pilewski, in three charges of aggravated vehicle, a second degree murder, two second-degree attack charges, an aggravated driving number while being intoxicated and two three-degree assault charges.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Tierney said: “This conviction is a memory for everything that kills driving in a state of intoxication.”

Mendoza-Baquuiax is represented by the Legal Assistance Society in Suffolk county, according to the judicial documents. He is scheduled to return to court for conviction on April 15 and is expected to be sentenced to five to 15 years in prison, according to the district prosecutor.
