Fatal bus accident: Gauten MEC visits the patients in Thembisa

Gauten MEC for Health and Health, Nomantu Nkomo-Lerahoko, visited various hospitals to evaluate patients who were admitted following a fatal buse accident or Tambo International Airport yesterday, March 11.

Yesterday’s bus accident on R21 near International Airport or Tambo, it led to the death of 14 people and to hurt many others.

The emergency services and the law enforcement worked tirelessly on the spot, recovering the victims and transporting the wounded to various hospitals in Ekurhuleni.

Today, March 12, Gauten MEC for Health and Health, Nomantu Nkomo-Lerahoko, visited the provincial Hospital Thembisa to evaluate the condition of patients admitted following the accident.

President Cyril Ramaphosa expanded the condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, while the executive mayor of Ekurhuteni, Nkosindipches Xhakaza, also visited the hospital to check the victims.

According to MEC Nkomo -ralehoko, TheMbisa Hospital is currently treating six patients in the accident.

Of these, three are in critical condition, while the other three remain stable.

There were no victims at the hospital.

“At this moment, I identified 14 victims from the accident.

“However, many patients remain admitted to various hospitals.

“At TheMbisa Hospital, six people are treated, three in critical condition and three in stable condition. We work closely with the forensic team and use fingerprint databases to help identify patients and notify their families as soon as possible, ”she said.

She also revealed that an unidentified member was recovered on the spot.

“We are not sure who belongs to this stage. Our medical -legal team is investigating and going to Far East Hospital to check any matches, ”she added.

MEC congratulated the emergency respondents and military personnel for the efforts made in saving the victims.

Nkomo -ralehoko also addressed the confusion around death, which was reported inconsistent.

Some sources initially said that 16 people died, while others reported 13 victims.

However, MEC has confirmed that the official number of death is 14 years.

“We confirmed 14 victims, together with the unidentified member, bringing the criminal number to 15.

“Each hospital involved offers updates and we work from a command center at Thelle Mogoerane.

“This will allow the media to access accurate information through our disaster management center and avoid misinformation,” she explained.

She asked the public and the media to keep up to date through official channels, because the situation is fluid and the details continue to appear.

During his address, MEC also presented Dr. Rianna Louw, who was recently appointed interim CEO of the Provincial Tertiary Hospital Thembisa.
