Bexar County, Texas – The representative of the Texas House, Philip Cortez and the Sheriff of Bexar County, Javier Salazar, introduced a draft law within the Tuesday Committee of the Criminal Jurisprudence Committee to implement toughest sanctions for the robberies of vehicles in Bexar County.

Salazar spoke in front of the commission, saying he saw an influx of robberies because of people looking for weapons.

“It is becoming more and more violent crime because of the presence, the introduction of weapons that, unfortunately, are left in so many vehicles per night,” said Salazar.

House invoice 727 would change the current punishment of the vehicle’s burglary from an offense to a state offense. Also, the cases in which the firearms are stolen from vehicles, incidents that involve several robberies of vehicles, in which a weapon is transported during a theft and cases involving repeat criminals are approached.

Salazar said that stolen weapons are used in other crimes, such as theft of vehicles in the neighborhoods, which eventually endangers people.

“I often hold a weapon in your hand and, in some cases, even appointed while they crash, passing through the car,” said Salazar. “They emphasize that the firearm on the front door of the residence, waiting for someone to go out and face them. I saw cases where weapon game was produced. “

If it had passed, the draft law would enter into force on September 1, 2025.
