Chorley counselor convicted of assaulting public protests during council meeting

CLLR Southern was later accused of “attack by beatings”, who was guilty of the Blackburn magistrates.

However, he was convicted and ordered to pay Mrs. Hurley 250 pounds in compensation, along with 660 pounds for the Criminal Prosecution Service.

Speaking after Verdict, Mrs. Hurley said: “Being a chosen representative does not mean that someone is over the law – it is not a right to upset.

“Vigilantism is against the law, and the attack is an attack.”

CLLR Southern – who represented Coston, Mawdesley and Euxton South Ward in May 2023 – said the result of the case was “disappointing”, but said it would attract the verdict.

Rumpus was ravaging at the annual meeting of establishing the budget of the district authority last year, which was already suspended shortly after the start of the procedures, when the Gaza protest broke out during public questions.

Jenny Hurley asked to know why the leading work group did not submit a motion that requested the cessation of fire in the conflict.

“Why didn’t this happen?” she asked.

At that moment, CLLR Southern shouted: “Because it is Chorley, not Bloody Gaza,” before heading to her, in scenes filmed by colleagues.

The leader of the conservative opposition group, Alan Platt, spoke about the place of his colleague in the party following his conviction.

“I think CLLR Southern intends to call – and (he) has the full support of the Conservative Group,” said CLLR Platt.

“After I was at the meeting, I am very surprised and disappointed by this verdict. The interruption seemed to be staged, and the video tests speak for themselves. “

A Chorley Council spokesman said the authority will not comment on the result of the case.
