The CEO Police Guard Safaricom Police Accused of Crime After Bar Shot

A police officer distributed at the Safaricom VIP protection detail was accused of murder following the fatal shooting of an officer colleague during a bar in Ruaraka.

Ezekiel Kipkoech Tarus was notified before Judge James Wakiaga at the Milimani Court, where he was officially accused of killing Raphael Kimuli Wambua, a police officer attached to the Central Bank in Kenya.

According to the criminal prosecution, on the night of February 23, 2025, the deceased, in the company of his brother Erick Ngolania Wammbua – a police officer stationed at the GSU headquarters – watched football and drank at the Wadafi bar.

When they left the bar around 1:20, they faced Tarus, who would have shot Raphael Kimuli using the Jericho Pistle, the series 44338440.

Following the shooting, a furious crowd attacked the accused before the police officers from the Ruaraka Police Section intervened and hurried to the Kenyatta National Hospital.

Through his lawyers, Danstan omari and Shadrak Wambei, the accused asked to be released on bail, arguing that there are no convincing reasons for him to be detained and that he will comply with all the directions issued by the court.

The prosecutor’s office initially sought to retain the Tarus for 14 days to allow further investigations.

However, after examining the case, the director of public prosecutors (DPP) indicated that he is officially charged.

By appearing in front of the justice Wakiaga, Tarus denied the accusations and was released on a bail of 500,000 kSh and a guarantee of a similar amount.

In addition, the court also indicated that it should not contact any witness and has to report to the investigation officer every Thursday, until the case heard and decision.

The case is scheduled to be heard on May 20, 2025.
