Dutete will take place there until an initial appearance in court, probably in the coming days.

Speaking with AFP outside the ICC, Gilbert Andres, a lawyer representing the victims of the drug war, said: “My customers are very grateful to God, because their prayers have been answered.”

“The arrest of Rodrigo Duterte is a great signal for international criminal justice. It means no one is over the law,” Andres added.

The drug against drugs was the signature campaign platform that swept mercury in power in 2016. In the six years in office, 6,200 suspects were killed during anti -drug operations by the police number.
