Schumer warns the Dems Senate will reject the GOP plan that avoids the government closure

The leader of the minority in the Senate, Chuck Schumer, D-New York, said there is not enough democratic support in the Senate to advance the draft law to finance federal agencies until September 20.

On chapter Hill Tuesday evening, it was the last press to the finance line for the Republicans in the house, who passed the spending bill By vote from 217 to 213, with a single Republican, representative Thomas Massie, R-Ky., The vote against the legislation. A Democrat, representative Jared Golden, D-Maine, voted yes.

The draft law maintains financing levels as well, but adds an increase of $ 6 billion for the Pentagon, including an increase in wages for inscribed members of the military and a decrease of $ 13 billion for defenseless internal expenses.

It also includes more money for immigration and customs application (ICE).

On the Senate floor, Schumer said that the Republicans “have no votes in the Senate” for the draft law to advance, indicating that the Democrats are ready to block it.

He said that they “chose a partisan path” by the fact that they did not receive any contribution from Democrats regarding the draft law.

Schumer suggested a short -term plan to maintain the government funded for another month, saying that “I hope my Republican colleagues will join to avoid closing on Friday.”

Currently, government funding will take place at 12:01 am on Saturday, if the Congress does not. After the majority room GOP approved the resolution on Tuesday night, they finally granted the Senate to review the draft law, offering only time to pass or reject it.

The president of the house Mike Johnson has insisted that it is a strong plan for now.

“He takes care of these immediate priorities that have been articulated here and allows us to go further with the change of the dimension and scope of the federal government,” he said.

In an interview with Fox News, Johnson said that Schumer “has a great decision to make” whether “or will” vote or not to keep the government open or be blamed for stopping it? “

Democrats insist that they were supported if the Republicans had chosen to work with them instead of the approach, which they say have led to a legislation that contains much less specifications about what they can and cannot do the executive branch, handing to Elon Musk and President Trump an “empty check to steal from the American people.”

Given the state of the political climate of Capitol Hill, obtaining at least seven democratic votes in the Senate might seem like an impossible task, but if the government closes, they could be blamed for it. Some Democrats are worried that they have no good options.
