Chorley counselor who pushed protest during the Gaza protest, convicted of aggression

Against the backdrop of a protest on the war in Gaza, Craige Southern tells the local residence Jenny Hurley to “go out”

A counselor was found guilty of aggressing a member of the public in a town hall, against the backdrop of the war in Gaza.

Councilor Chorley, Craige Southern, evacuated the local resident Jenny Hurley during a complete council meeting in February last year, saying “to go out”.

Later, he was accused of appeal, which he pleaded innocent, but was convicted of Blackburn magistrates on Wednesday.

Southern was ordered to pay Mrs. Hurley 250 compensation pounds, along with 660 pounds for the crown tracking service.

Following the Fracas, Mrs. Hurley said that while she was forced to leave the room by the conservative politician, he grabbed her and a Usher had to stop “fall back”.

Talking to Local Democracy Reporting Service According to Verdict, Mrs. Hurley said: “Being a chosen representative does not mean that someone is over the law – it is not a right to bully.

“Vigilantism is against the law, and the attack is an attack.”

South – who represented Croston, Mawdesley and Euxton South Ward in May 2023 – said the result of the case was “disappointing”, but said LDRS he would call Verdict.

The incident spent at the annual meeting of establishing the budget of the rayon authority last year, which was already suspended shortly after the procedure, when the Gaza protest broke out during public questions.

Jenny Hurley asked to know why the leading work group did not submit a motion that requested the cessation of fire in the conflict.

“Why didn’t this happen?” She asked.

At that moment, Southern shouted: “Because she is Chorley, not Bloody Gaza,” before heading to her and telling her to “go out”, in scenes filmed by protester colleagues.

The leader of the conservative opposition group, Alan Platt, said: “I think the southern counselor intends to call – and (he) has the full support of the Conservative Group.

“After I was at the meeting, I am very surprised and disappointed by this verdict.

“The interruption seemed to be staged, and the video evidence speaks for themselves.”

The Chorley Council said the authority will not comment on the result of the case.
