Tottenham’s Odobert finally proves his value

London: Wilson Odobert’s first season in Tottenham Hotspur was fiery by injury, but the French young man has lately put his mark on his first goals to send them to the quarterfinals of the Europa League on Thursday.

The 20-year-old opened the score against the Dutch club Az Alkmaar in the 26th minute and hit again in the 74th minute to seal a 3-1 victory and to send it to Spurs until the last eight.

Odobert’s second goal from a counter-attack has established that he would be mixed at home, after his mixture with Lucas Bergvall team colleague allowed AZ Koopmeiners to level the aggregate score.

It was quite one night for the graduate of the Paris St Germain Academy, who joined Tottenham from Burnley in August, but who suffered a serious hamlet in September, which marked him for a large part of the season.

“Super satisfied for him, because he worked great,” the manager Ange Postecoglou told reporters, whose side will take over to Eintracht Frankfurt reporters in the quarterfinals.

“I was delighted when I signed it. It’s just one of these players who has the ability to take people, find space and is a great technician.

“He came to a new club this year, Big Club, a big move for him and he simply did not work without his guilt because of his injury. It was frustrating for me not to show him. I know how much he can develop and this is just a starting point for him.”

Tottenham was under control when James Maddison did 2-0 at night with the 11th goal of the Ion All Competition season.

There were a few nerves when AZ pulled a goal back, but in general it was a positive night for Tottenham, which was stimulated by the return to the players’ fitness, including Cristian Romero, Micky Van de Ven, Maddison and Dominic Solanke.

“It was a collective effort tonight,” Postecoglou said. “I think it is the first time in October, we had our four leaders in the park (Guglielmo) Vicario, Romero, Maddison and Son (Heung-Min). To have the four there, I think he makes the difference for us.”

What was a Torid Tottenham season could still come well with Postecoglou still in the course to give it the praise to always win a trophy in its second season at a club.

“I know why we are capable of here and we finished the job,” Maddison said. “We haven’t got anything yet, we are in the quarterfinals and we hit the head and we look forward to it.”
