FTC claims that it cannot take the case of Amazon because of Doge discounts, then changes their opinion

Earlier this week, the Federal Commerce Commission claimed that it cannot pursue a case against Amazon, due to large resources and budgetary discounts made by the Elon Musk Government Efficiency Department. However, in a bizarre reversal, the company took its previous statements back, claiming that FTC had, indeed, the resources to go further with the case.

The case of the process in question involves the alleged manipulated practices of Amazon in signing users for subscriptions. During a Wednesday, Jonathan Cohen hearing, FTC lawyer, asked the district judge John Chun to delay the trial until September due to resource and personal deficiencies, Bloomberg reports.

“We have lost the employees of the Agency, in our division and in our case team,” Cohen said to the judge, mentioning that “there is an extremely severe resource deficit in terms of money and staff.” Cohen also said that the agency was so linked that “it may not be able to purchase the transcription from Wednesday.”

The statement followed An ad that Doge had canceled about 200,000 government credit cards throughout the federal government, severely limiting the expenses that these agencies could make.

However, not long after the hearing, the lawyer arrived back to the court to claim that he was wrong. “I was wrong,” Cohen said. “The Commission has no resources constraints and we are fully prepared to dispute this case,” the lawyer said. “Please make sure that FTC will fulfill any program and the deadlines that the court establishes.”

Amazon brought down the idea that the government is not prepared for the case. “No presentation of this call was shown according to which the Government has no resources to proceed with the trial date, as it is currently established”, said John Hueston, the company’s lawyer. “What I heard is that they have the whole test team. Maybe it will be a movement at the office. And, by the way, both in the government sector and in the private sector, I have never heard that an office movement is more than a few disturbing days. “

It is not clear what happens here, although it only feels like another day in Trump Presidency 2.0 – a realm where weird things happen all the time. Gizmodo addressed the FTC for some clarity of the situation and will update this story if it responds.
