Man accused of assaulting the police during the arrest for burglary

(CNS): A 38-year-old man from George Town is facing a list of serious crimes, after assaulting the police officers who arrested him this week for an offense that took place almost eight months ago.

The man was suspicious about a commercial burglary that happened at the headquarters in the east Avenue in George Town, on July 18 last year. On Monday, when the officers approached him to make an arrest, he assaulted the officers and damaged their patrol car.

After arrested the suspect, the officers searched him and found an undesirable amount of Ganja in his possession. This and the assault were added to the list of accusations.

Since then, the arrested man has been officially accused of burglary regarding the incident that took place on July 18, 2024. Formal accusations have also been recommended, as follows: two accusations of police assault, damage to the property and hold a controlled drug (GANJA). These offenses were committed at the time of his arrest on March 10.

The man appeared in court on Wednesday and was withdrawn by arrest until March 24.
