The Ministry of Education of the Union asked on Thursday the Board of Directors of the Indian Management Institute (IIM), Rohtak, or suspend the director of the Institute, Dheeraj Sharma, or send it on leave until a probe against it for the supposed hijacking of funds, according to sources.

The director was also asked to stay away from the IIM campus/area rented in IIM Rohtak to other orders.

Affirmations against Sharma include the wrong swelling of the financial health of IIM Rohtak and using such figures manipulated to pay for a huge variable salary (more than RS 1 crore) to the director IIM Rohtak starting in 2018-19.

President Droupadi Murmu ordered an investigation earlier this month on the alleged diversion of public funds at Iim Rohtak during Sharma’s term as director of the Institute.

The investigation will also include the verification of the educational qualification certificates of Sharma and other employees recruited at IIM.

The probe against Sharma was launched following an investigation carried out by the main chief controller of the accounts, the Ministry of Education, which found serious irregularities and serious diversion of public funds at IIM Rohtak.

The ministry also mentioned that the Sharma diploma certificate was repeatedly searched during its first term of director of IIM Rohtak from 2017-2022, but was not sent by IIM Rohtak until the end of his term.

Also, the Center asked the Board of Directors to deliver the IIM Rohtak’s accusation to another member of the faculty who was not associated with the financial issues of the Institute.

“An official letter in this regard was sent to Jai Dev Shroff, the chairman of the Board of Directors, Iim Rohtak.
