Michelle Wu suddenly under a hard federal microscope

Mayor Michelle Wu, just one week after greeted her supporters in the face of virtuous performance before a hostile concession surveillance panel, is suddenly under a hard federal microscope.

Wu is one of the four great mayors of the city who will be announced by the Department of Justice about an imminent visit to the Federal Working Group of President Trump to combat anti -Semitism to make him pity the city of the city to protect Jewish students against illegal discrimination.

It is the second time in the last two weeks, WU, one of the most visible progressive mayors in the country, has been targeted by the Trump administration and is not a coincidence.

It is a rude awakening for Wu, greeted for the defense of the city’s policy of the city at the Congress Supervisory Committee and has rode high in the ballot box.

The Department of Justice and Republican MPs clearly have it for WU in the middle of his re -election campaign.

Wu’s powerful personality and dictatorial style attracted the attention of President Donald Trump, Border Tsar Tom Homan and Prosecutor General Pam Bondi.

“Too many elected officials have chosen not to rise to an increase in anti -Semitism in our cities and campuses following the horrible events of October 7, 2023,” said Prosecutor General Pam Bondi in a statement to Boston and three other cities by the Federal Anti -Semitism. “The actions have consequences – the inaction also does.”

Main Prosecutor of the Deputy Prosecutor for Civil Rights, Leo Terrell, a leading member of the working group, said he intends to meet the city management, impact students, local law enforcement and members of the Boston, New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, “as he gathers information” on the alleged incidents and “if he is guaranteed”.

Do not mind that Wu ordered the Boston police to arrest 100 pro-Palestinians who were camp at Emerson College on Boylston Place Alley last year.

She was actually criticized for police actions by civil freedom groups, some counselors and manifesting students who claimed to have been injured by zipper.

But Boston and Massachusetts were the centers of several pro-Hamas demonstrations in which the Jewish students said they felt intimidated and harassed.

During the height of demonstrations, Wu said relatively little to indicate strong support for Israel – expressing support for both Jews and Palestinians. Greater Boston hosts the fourth largest Jewish community in the United States.

“Boston will be a place where everyone is safe and all our opinions and prospects have the space to be in conversation without tolerance for threats or intimidation,” she said while the war in Israel-Hamas began.

But she clearly changes her song now, when the Fedes consider it.

“Boston has one of the most vibrant Jewish communities in America, a source of pride and strength for our city and our region and we stop firmly against anti -Semitism,” said a WU spokesman.

Meetings with Wu and the other three mayors in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago were initiated by DOJ shortly after the US Education Department warned 60 colleges and universities from all over the country with potential application actions if they do not protect Jewish students in their campuses.

The letter of the Department of Education was sent to Boston University, Emerson College, Harvard University, Tufts University, Umass Amherst and Wellesley College, as well as Middlebury College, Brown University and Yale University.
