Applying law, community gathering for visiting LMDC officer Michael Wehdah

Louisville, Ky. (Wave) – It’s been almost a month from a The subway correction officer was shot and killed And, on Friday, March 14, the first respondents and the community gathered to honor officer Michael Wehdah.

While the Fern Creek Baptist church opened its doors for people to pay respect for the officer of the correction department in the Louisville subway (LMDC), Wehdah, the retired LMD officer, Donald Bradley, thought it was important for him to exist, even if he never met Wehdah.

“We are a family,” Bradley said about people in the application of the law. “Whether we know each other, we are still part of the unit, so I’m just here to pay my respect.”

The police say officer Wehdah was found shot dead on an alley on Cedar Street on February 16th. Officer Wehdah joined LMDC in August 2024 and, even though his time with the department was short, chief Jerry Collins said he left his mark.

“He immediately made an impact with the officers through his work ethics and the way he led,” he remembered.

Chief Collins described officer Wehdah, who came to the United States as a working family man. The officer’s family is now left with more questions than answers. The chief Collins said LMDC helps them navigate the tragic loss.

“We actually have another officer in Liberia that we attributed to the family to help the whole process, benefits, We made funds collectors“He mentioned. “I was with my family all the time, receiving family members in the city for burial tomorrow and watching today.”

The funeral and the funeral for the Wehdah officer are scheduled for Saturday, March 15th.
