LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier about what Chris Hilton’s return to offense brings

Chris Hilton Jr. signed with LSU in 2021 as one of the first top receptors in his class. On 247sports, Hilton was the recruit of receptor no. 5 in college football. Conformable On3 industry rankings, Hilton was the general recruitment no. 79 in the country.

Hilton is a dynamic talent with the speed of removing the top of a defense, but the wounds have prevented Hilton from setting up a full-time role in Four years in LSU.

Hilton was rotated as Sophomore, winning a start against the Mississippi state in 2022, but Hilton broke the ACL and went out during the year. In 2023, Hilton was healthy, but the targets were hard to get to Malik Nabers, Brian Thomas Jr, Mason Taylor and Kyren Lake swallowed most of the work.

Hilton looked good in LSU’s victory in 2023 over Wisconsin, catching three passes and a touchdown, presenting a good connection with Quarterback from Garrett Nussmeier. There were high hopes for Hilton in 2024, but another accident held Hilton on the edge for two months.

On his return, Hilton took some time to put his feet under him. Hilton only caught three passes in his first four games back. But at the end of the regular LSU season to Oklahoma, Hilton became LSU with deep threat. He caught two long balls for 83 meters and two scores. Hilton transported this to LSU Bowl Vs. Baylor, catching four passes for 113 meters and a score.

“Chris is an unbelievable player and is a special talent, a special speed and his ability to watch football is very, very high,” said Nussmeier, “obviously, we have chemistry coming together and I worked with each other for four years and whenever he will be able to remain healthy, which I know.

Hilton showed that game in Oklahoma as an example of what he can do when he is healthy.

“It was sucking missing the majority of the season with my injury, but the last two games showed who they really are,” Hilton said.

The LSU receptor’s wide room will be deep in 2025. Despite the lack of return production, LSU added Barion Brown and Nic Anderson from the transfer portal. Hilton will have the chance to appear as the biggest threat of the LSU.
