Suspect of Amritsar Temple Blast killed in exchange for fire with Punjab Police

A suspect in the explosion incident outside an Amritsar temple was killed in a fire exchange with the police, a top officer said on Monday.

Another suspect managed to run away, he said, adding that the efforts were to do it.

An explosion took place outside the Temple Thakur Dwara, on March 15, when a person threw an explosive device at him, damaging a portion of his wall and shattering the windows.

The police said the suspect, who was killed in the incident, was identified as Gursidak Singh, a resident of Bal Village, while the other was Vishal, a resident of Rajasans.

Sharing details, the Amritsar Police Commissioner, Gurpret Singh Bhullar, said the suspects, who were on a motorcycle, were asked to stop a police team, but opened the fire to their staff.

The chief leader Gurpret Singh suffered a bullet injury in the left arm, while a bullet hit him on the turban of Inspector Amylak Singh, Bhullar said. He said that the accused fired five rounds to the police team who responded in self -defense.

Gursidak Singh was injured and later gave up on injuries while Vishal managed to run, Bhullar said, adding efforts to arrest him.

Gursidak Singh was involved in two cases of snatching at Gunpoint and was recently released from prison. Vishal faces an attempt to kill.

Previously, the head of the Punjab Police, Gaurav Yadav, said that acting on the specific information, the Amritsar Police followed those responsible for the attack on the Temple.

“The police teams followed the suspects from Rajasansi. The accused opened the fire, injuring HC Gurpret Singh and striking insp. AMOLAK Singh, the turban,” said Yadav, the general director of the Punjab Police, in a post from X.

“Acting in self-defense, the Police Party fired back, hurting the accused. He was taken to the Civil Hospital, where he later gave in to his wounds. The other accused fled, and the efforts are to arrest him,” said Yadav.

The filming of the CCTV camera of the incident showed two unidentified people who came to the temple on a motorcycle. After waiting for a few seconds, one of them was seen throwing the explosive device to the temple, and the two later fled the site.

Punjab police said they suspect the role of the intelligence inter-service (ISI) in the attack.

While no one was injured in the incident, the explosion caused panic among residents in the Khandwala area in Amritsar.
